The artwork on our mead bottles was created by Valisa Higman, a cut-paper artist based in the beautiful seaside town of Seldovia, across Kachemak Bay from Homer. Seldovia is accessible only by boat or plane, but a visit is well worth the effort if you are spending time in the southern Kenai Peninsula.
The artwork for each of our labels began as a single sheet of black paper. Carving away at the black paper with an Xacto knife, Higman revealed images of berries, leaves, animals and mountains in an intricate lacework of lines. She then filled the negative space she had exposed with layers of paper in vibrant colors and textures.
The original art created for each of our labels can be viewed in our tasting room. Prints of Higman’s work can also be purchased there, or from Higman’s online shop.
